Many find it difficult to decipher the difference between false and true prophets these days. All proclaim to have the truth, yet with 850 different denominations out there, that proclamation is highly unlikely. The mindset has just become, "well since there are so many, we all find God in our own way. However, there is only one Bible and only one way that Christ taught his disciples 2000 years ago to receive salvation. Then, who are the false prophets today, and where can we find the truth.
"He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction"
2 Peter 3:16
Anytime I've tried to spread the message of the truth I've gotten responses such as "Well that's your interpretation, I may see it differently". However, the Bible isn't meant to be interpreted in any other way than what it says. That's why God gave a very specific warning at the end of the Bible.
" I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book (Bible): If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book" Revelation 22:18-19
Then who are the false prophets? Those who take the teachings of Christ and turn them into something different, claiming to be following the word of God.
Let's take the basics first. Day of Worship.
According to the Bible what is the day that God commanded us to worship on?
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, Six days you shall labor and do all your work but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God." Exodus 20:8
**Sabbath is the seventh day, which is???
Sun⋅day /ˈsʌndeɪ, -di/ [suhn-dey, -dee]
–noun 1. the first day of the week, observed as the Sabbath by most Christian sects.
(dictionary.com)
Isn't it curious that the definition of Sunday Contradicts what the Bible says, shouldnt Christians be observing the Seventh Day? Sunday is the first day of the week YET it is the Sabbath for most Christians.
According to the Bible Sabbath is the SEVENTH day of the week:
Sat⋅ur⋅day /ˈsætərˌdeɪ, -di/ [sat-er-dey, -dee]
–noun the seventh day of the week, following Friday
(dictionary.com)
So some may argue that was the Old Testament, then what about Christ, which day did he worship on?
"He went to Nazareth where he had been brought up and on the Sabbath day he went into the Synagogue as was his custom and stood up to read from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah" Luke 4:16
Christ kept the Sabbath day, then what about his followers? Many claim that after his resurrection everything changed, lets see if it did ....
"As HIS custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the scriptures, explaining and proving that Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead" Acts 17:2-3
Apostle Paul, one of the greatest Apostles of Christ kept the Sabbath day as was his custom. Then what about the churches that keep Sunday worship, a teaching that isn't from Christ, who's customs are they following?
"Not to mention other examples, is not every Christian obliged to sanctify Sunday and to abstain on that day from unnecessary servile work? Is not the observance of this law among the most prominent of our sacred duties? But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify"
-James Cardinal Gibbons, "The Faith of our Fathers," pp.72-73
(This book was written by a Cardinal of the Catholic Church)
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel -- which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned" Galatians 1:6-8
Apostle Paul gave this very strong message to the church of Galatia because some were claiming other teachings to be of Christ, rather than holding true to what CHrist himself brought them to follow. This same message applies to us now. Even though many churches, pastors, priests, etc. Claim to follow God, if they aren't following the true teachings of Christ and yet teaching others to follow these false doctrines, who is it in the end that we're following?
"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons" 1 Timothy 4:1
How will we know who the deceiving spirits are? to be deceptive means that it's done in a way that seems okay but in reality, it is merely deceit, then how to recognize?
"They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be receieved with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth" 1 Timothy 4:3
Let's Recap, if the following are teachings of a certain group or church, according to the Bible it is from a deceptive Spirit that is distorting the words of the Bible to their own destruction:
* Sunday Worship
* Abstaining from certain foods
* Forbidding Marriage (Even the higher officials in churches are able to marry according to the Bible)
"The prophets follow an evil course and use their power unjustly. Both prophet and priest are godless, even in my temple I find their wickedness, declares the Lord" Jeremiah 23:10-11
In the time of Jeremiah, even in the temple of the Lord many priests and prophets were speaking for their own gain and causing others to follow evil lies. But why is it that we need to know these things? Many people think the Old Testament is written just for our enjoyment because they are fascinating stories. Is that the only reason God wants us to see these things? for our enjoyment?
Isn't the Bible written to teach us something more than that?
"For everything that was writte in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope" Romans 15:4
**Everything that happened in the past teaches us that the same things may occur in later times. Hence Apostle Paul stating that in later times some may follow deceptive Spirits. In the past even in the Temple of the Lord many were teaching and following false doctrines. However, if you think about it the same thing is happening today. Many denominations and sects of "Christianity" claim to have the truth yet follow many teachings that are against the Bible. How many other false teachings are people being led into thinking they will receieve Salvation when in reality, according to the Bible, they are teachings taught by demons.
Communion/Eucharist - cannot be found once in the Bible. These are traditions that are kept either weekly, monthly, or several times per year. However, when did Christ give us his body and blood?
"On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover. He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, the Teacher says: my appointed time is near, I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples"
"While they were eating Jesus took bread.."Take and eat this is my body". Then he took the cup gave thanks and offered it to them saying, "Drink from it all of you this is my blood of the Covenant" Matthew 26:17-27
On the night of the Passover Jesus Christ gave us his body and blood and waited for an appointed time (Leviticus 23:5). It isn't the bread and the wine that give us life, if we just receieve it at any time it is merely bread and wine. However, at the appointed time God gives the Promise that the bread and wine become the precious body and blood of Christ, the way for us to receieve Salvation. It is the Word of God that gives life.
"Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth...whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink" John 6:54-55
God gave us the promise of eternal life by receiving the flesh and blood of Christ through the Passover. Many have distorted the scriptures nowadays by following false teachings that allow this to be done at any given time. However the Passover has an appointed time for a purpose, it is God's will in order for us to receieve Salvation.
The Church of God World Mission Society follows the true teachings of Christ because it is the Church established by Christ. Only the truth of the Bible can lead our souls to Salvation, if we try to interpret the Bible in any other way it is to our own destruction. God wants to give us life not death and the true teachings of Christ are the ones that give us life.
"This is what the Lord Almighty says, "Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you they fill you with false hopes. THey speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord....Jer 23:16
